The Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) at Michigan State University has developed a thoughtful approach to onboarding and supporting community partners in service-learning and volunteer programs. This session explores how CCEL promotes community-engaged learning while building reciprocal, long-term relationships. Participants will engage with strategies for onboarding, communication, and engagement, including standardized workflows, orientation options, and mutual agreements. The session highlights tools such as Spartan Volunteer, targeted outreach aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and student organization networks. Attendees will learn how to strengthen relationships through semester planning, ongoing communication, and feedback loops such as partner gatherings and surveys. Examples of collaboration with schools, nonprofits, and agencies will illustrate co-created service opportunities and inclusive, mission-driven engagement.
