Creating inclusive spaces for students to engage in discourse about today’s challenging realities is vital. This session presents a successful model from Tufts University's Tisch College, which uses art-making and exhibition as a powerful tool for bridge-building and exploration within an academic setting. We will explore how art can navigate complexity and amplify voices, using the exhibit Material Witness (an artist's response to a Holocaust survivor's experience and the parallels facing immigrants today), in order to spark dialogue about history and contemporary civic life. Participants will learn how to facilitate the program's steps: Viewing Art and Discussing Themes Students' Making Art to explore civic identity Exhibiting the Artwork to center student voice Participants will leave with a framework for using creativity to foster deeper, respectful conversation.
