The George Washington University’s engageDC is a capacity-building program centered around empowering students to work with community partners D.C.’s most vulnerable residents in ways that are intentional and sustainable. Three engageDC site leaders will showcase adaptable initiatives they co-created with the staff at Little Friends for Peace; a nonprofit promoting intercultural communication and restorative justice practices; The AnBryce Foundation, a nonprofit teaching civic literacy to DCPS students; and ArtReach, a nonprofit providing free art and art therapy curricula for youth and adults. Attendees will receive materials for or participate in planting, peace circle, and build-a-school mini-workshops that culminate in a discussion about how similar practices can be implemented at their institutions through leveraging resources like Federal Work Study.
