This session discusses how a small student-led group developed the Hunger Free Campus Coalition at Salem State University (SSU). Presenters will share how and why the coalition was launched; how it grew to include stakeholders across Massachusetts, and how the coalition’s political advocacy resulted in $1M dollars for the 28 undergraduate-serving public institutions across the State. Presenters, one whom is an alumna who founded the coalition in 2021, will provide a case study, share successes, challenges, adaptations throughout the years, the impact, and reinforce the importance of celebrating all advocacy accomplishments. The session will conclude with SSU’s plans for additional advocacy-based coalitions and robust participant engagement that will help attendees envision how they can build student-led coalitions on their campuses.
