This workshop will focus on infrastructure, processes, and programs to support reciprocal partnerships between university students and local community partners. We will share lessons learned from Penn’s Netter Center for Community Partnerships in providing opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to engage and co-create projects with West Philadelphia partners through Academically Based Community Service courses, community work-study and volunteer positions, and student leadership programs. Current/recent students will share their experiences, particularly in Netter’s Penn Program for Public Service internship that immerses undergraduates in democratic, real-world problem-solving with local community partners for mutually beneficial outcomes. Participants will have a chance to reflect on their own programs and discuss opportunities to deepen connectivity and learning between university students and community partners.
