Federal Work-Study (FWS) can be a powerful on-ramp to support community engagement. However, navigating the program's complexities and overcoming national and institutional challenges can turn into roadblocks and cause detours. This session will explore the obstacles students, staff, faculty and community partners face in accessing and utilizing FWS funds for community service initiatives. Additionally, we will discuss the recent controversies around the use and allocation of work-study funds. To address these challenges, resources and support systems have emerged to assist community engagement professionals in leveraging FWS for the benefit of their students and community partners. This session will provide valuable insights and strategies for maximizing the potential of Work-Study for community service.
