Working as a boundary spanner requires unique skills. This session will introduce participants to the Intercultural Development Inventory and Plan as a promising practice for understanding the unique role that community engagement professionals play in higher education institutions and in the communities with whom we work as well as the skills and tools that may be useful in these spaces. Institutions of higher education have cultures, broadly and institutionally specific, as do the communities in which they are situated. The Intercultural Development Inventory assists in helping CEPs and other boundary spanners understand the importance of their own personal communication styles, skills, and tools as we seek to connect with community members and other professionals within institutions of higher education.
