The Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement Coalition (CLDE) is working to renew the civic mission of postsecondary education by making CLDE learning an expectation for all students. The CLDE Coalition’s report, Every Student, Every Degree: College Civic Learning for Today’s Students and Tomorrow’s Democracy, calls for expanding civic learning to reinforce student success efforts and contribute to students’ preparation for work and career. High-impact practices (HIPs), evidence-based approaches to enhancing student engagement and learning, are a part of many colleges’ student success efforts and many HIPs include opportunities for civic learning and engagement. This session will share research on the benefits of HIPs, offer curricular models, and examine how institutions have built infrastructure to support community-engaged HIPs.
