Description

Online abuse—from violent threats and hateful slurs to sexual harassment and doxing—is on the rise in higher education and disproportionately impacts those who are women, people of color, LGBTQ+, or members of religious and ethnic minority groups. It leads those targeted to self-censor, to make themselves and their work less visible, and to step back from engaging in public discourse. In this roundtable, we will learn from each other’s experiences online and workshop solutions to this growing challenge using case studies. Participants will leave with some practical tools and strategies to defend against online abuse, including how to prepare, respond, self-care, and be an ally.
