Join Daryl Lowe, associate vice president for student affairs at Spelman College, and Jacqueline Pfeffer Merrill, director of the Campus Free Expression Project, for a workshop on approaches to building student civil discourse skills while fostering norms of free expression and academic freedom. Learn about proven strategies, programs, and exercises to build civil discourse skills in the first-year experience, residence life, and other student affairs programs. The session will draw on the 2024 report, Campus Free Expression: A New Roadmap for Student Affairs. Attendees will have opportunities to share their own approaches and to discuss how each institution can ground civil discourse and free expression programs in its unique history, mission, and local community.
