Description

California Community Colleges (CCCs), with its 116 campuses and 1.9 million students, welcome the most diverse population in higher education, yet most institutions ignore their civic mission and unintentionally increase a civic equity gap. Civic Dialogues, a virtual speakers’ series—driven by faculty civic leaders, in collaboration with the California Community Colleges’ Success Network (3CSN)—is providing a professional development venue to advance systematic change to address this problem. The need to embrace the original civic mission of higher education is urgently needed in CCCs. Civic Dialogues addresses how to bring about systematic change to ensure civic equity is prioritized in strategic plans, infused within teaching and learning, and valued in faculty development initiatives and funding throughout the CCC system.
