Highlighting content from the monograph, Faculty Engaged Scholarship: Setting Standards and Building Conceptual Clarity (2021, Academy of Community Engagement Scholarship), this authors' talk examines the case studies of two public research universities — the University of Minnesota and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill—in their efforts to advance promotion and tenure policies for engaged scholarship. Discussed are lessons learned and the better institutional conceptual clarity for engaged scholarship that emerged from those efforts. Participants will have the opportunity to work through a conceptual framework that offers perspectives on defining the various distinct disciplinary discourses of engaged scholarship as well as present questions to the authors regarding the various lessons learned and tips presented in the monograph.
