Description

Between 2019- 2023, students in Barnard College’s Urban Studies courses supported the community planning process of a coalition of community based organizations coordinated under the Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative (BCDI). The goal of this partnership with BCDI)was to develop a model of community engaged learning that emphasized solidarity between Barnard students and Bronx residents around the creation of a Bronx-wide community plan. The classes were made possible through the Barnard Engages NY initiative. Key takeaways for discussion in this session include: best practices for college/community collaboration around data and resource sharing, necessary support for faculty and partners and challenges in moving from grant funded support to institutionalization of community engaged scholarship more broadly.
