The Academic Programs Team (APT) at Michigan State University’s Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) partners with faculty across all colleges to create course-based community-engaged learning opportunities. In collaboration with the MSU Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, CCEL developed the Social Innovation Speed Pitch workshop to introduce students to social innovation as a strategy for social change. The workshop guides students in developing a social innovation venture by identifying a social need, understanding the impacted population, and exploring the existing context. It emphasizes asset-based thinking and collaboration over competition. CCEL has since expanded this workshop, integrating it into a three-class session for a first-generation scholar program. Participants in this session will engage in a brief Speed Pitch simulation.
