Of all service initiative participants at Kennesaw State University, only 23% self-identified as men, which is paltry given that men make up 49% of the student body. Most historical analyses, research, and discussions have (understandably) focused on gender disparities negatively impacting women due to intentional exclusion and inequitable treatment; however, gender disparity seems to have inadvertently made its home in the community impact space and has been documented both inside and outside of Higher Education. What are the societal implications of this disparity? Why should we care about addressing this issue among college students specifically? What intentional decisions can you make within your organization to support a shift to increase male engagement?
