Noticing need highlights a project illuminating systemic inequities and wicked societal problems at the point of care…at the root, at the person. A six-week, unfolding lived experience thoughtfully placed within a community nursing class, encourages students to extend learning beyond the walls of the hospital to community engagement for the purposes of noticing need, listening to lived experience, and bearing witness to the daily lives of those who may never seek care on the “inside”. Honoring experiences as they are lived and as they contribute to whole health reveals a commitment to equity congruent with the orientation of nursing toward all humanity. Participants will hear inspirational stories and key takeaways as described by student participants and share in practical discussion.
