Description

Community-engaged learning (CEL) is a powerful tool for education but is underutilized at the graduate level, especially in STEM fields. This session introduces an initiative from Indiana University Bloomington and Indiana University Indianapolis, in partnership with City of Bloomington municipal and non-profit groups to cultivate civic-minded STEM students through a multi-course model focused on urban climate resilience. Attendees will learn how this innovative approach integrates interdisciplinary coursework and community collaboration to address pressing urban challenges like tree canopy equitability. The session will address strategies for and challenges of implementing graduate-level CEL, fostering community partnerships, and preparing students for diverse career pathways.
