This session explores the development of civic identity among VISTA members serving with the North Mississippi VISTA Project. Drawing on findings from a study about the impact of national service on VISTA members and partner organizations, this session will examine how personal identity and community demographics shape civic identity development. Participants will engage with experiential learning examples, professional development topics, and reflection prompts designed to foster civic identity development and equip members for national service. The session will also present strategies for navigating community entry and building trust, both for members serving in their home communities and for those from outside. Participants can expect to gain tools for community entry, building trust, and critical reflection in the national service context.
