Dr. Trina L. Van Schyndel, Ph.D. (she/her) is a Recruiter for the U.S. Peace Corps and is based in Chicago. She is also a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served as an English teacher (TEFL Secondary Education) in Ukraine from 2006-2008. She previously held leadership roles within several higher education community engagement associations, including Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, Campus Compact, and the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE). She also previously worked in the community engagement offices of the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and the Medical College of Wisconsin. She earned her Ph.D. in higher, adult, and lifelong education from Michigan State University. Her dissertation focused on professional identity development of community-engaged practitioner-scholars through participation in professional associations while they are in graduate school. Her recent publications and presentations focus on understanding and supporting community-engaged graduate students and professionals.
