This session explores the intersections of community-engaged and public scholarship through the lens of the book, "Every 90 Seconds: Our Common Cause Ending Violence against Women" (Oxford University Press, 2022). Every 90 Seconds makes the case that the last fifty years have ushered in transformative change in public awareness of violence against women. Despite that progress, a woman is still sexually assaulted every 90 seconds, and another is victimized by a current or former intimate partner. The book argues that we need a new approach that illustrates each person's shared interest in this issue, regardless of their genders or life histories. The author talk will explore three key issues at the intersection of community-engaged research and public scholarship.
