Today's students are struggling to balance competing concerns such as transitioning to college, mental health challenges, economic uncertainty, and social strife, and civic and community engagement may not be a priority for them. This session will highlight current research and share techniques to engage students in civic and community engagement activities at a time when many interests (including life obligations) are competing for their time, as well as strategies to embed attention to their emotional and mental health needs in programming, including volunteering as healing. Facilitators will share research and personal experience of what works, and participants will have an opportunity to discuss individual successes and troubleshoot challenges.
