This session will cover the implementation of the Community Leadership Certificate at Holyoke Community College. The certificate provides future and current community activists and organizers the skills/knowledge in community organizing in non-profit organizations in Western Massachusetts, especially Holyoke, Chicopee and Springfield. As a result of the creation of the certificate program, we were able to train community activists and organizers who want to supplement their existing experience. After launching the program, we collaborated with the DHE and the Massachusetts Association of Community Colleges to provide paid internships through a new pilot project, Career Pathways in Community Leadership (CPCL), that began in FY 2023. This session will cover the curricular aspects plus the importance of paid internships in community-based organizations.
