Centering the civic enoughness (Woodson & Love, 2019) of Black students is important work for community engagement and service efforts at universities that seek to serve their local public schools. The civic changemaker partnership is a promising practice between a local school district and a university built on a model of cultural capital (Yosso, 2005) and acknowledging the power inherent within the communities that we serve. The program supports schools through service within a model that is asset-based and adheres to the desires of those in the communities for change instead of what the institution desires for the community. University service partnerships such as this one can leverage the strengths of both partners for greater impacts in service spaces.
