When the gold standard is long-term, sustained community engagement, can short-term community-engaged learning (CEL) experiences still be meaningful, impactful, and reciprocal? How might faculty, staff, community engagement professionals, and community partners engage students in accelerated CEL experiences in the classroom or co-curriculum? Educators at Colorado College become experts in condensed-format CEL. Why? CC is on the block plan, in which students take one class at a time for 3.5 weeks, sequentially attending four classes per semester. By necessity, our campus has had to adapt, thinking creatively and thoughtfully about how to approach CEL in limited timeframes. In this session, we will share our insights and lessons learned, including models, strategies, examples, best practices, and considerations.
