Description

“Learning through Serving: A Student Guidebook for Community Engagement across Academic Disciplines and Cultural Communities” is an international best-selling text for students, faculty, and community partners alike. The lead author, Professor Christine Cress (Portland State University), will highlight case studies, course syllabi examples, and community engagement activities from across North America, Europe, India, and Japan to demonstrate how educators have utilized the book content to integrate epistemological equity, pedagogical justice, and critical solidarity. Participants will hear illuminating and inspirational short stories of “the good, the bad, the ugly, and the innovative” gleaned from a decade of interactions with faculty, administrators, students, and community partners and be encouraged to share their own pithy insights and educational strategies for leveraging social change.
