This session will share research that investigated how promotion and tenure review committees evaluate faculty’s community-engaged scholarship. Focus will be given to what goes into making evaluative decisions, if/how committees utilize tools for evaluation, and how evaluative decisions are made. The session will provide participants with resources and clear methods that they can utilize to implement a similar review of guidelines and/or a campus-wide temperature check on the recognition of community engagement at their own institutions. The presentation will include how the collected data might be leveraged to “make the case” for appropriately valuing engaged scholarship in promotion and tenure.
