Description

A community health assessment course for Colorado School of Public Health students is presented as a curricular innovation and student success strategy grounded in the tenets of critical service-learning and asset-based community development. University and community partners apply the Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative Framework to highlight systemic inequities driving health outcomes. Framing data to advance equity is a social justice imperative for population health promotion. Description of the course is coupled with partnership examples from across the state and students' plans for incorporating lessons learned into their professional public health practice. Participants will reflect on session content and their own experiences through discussion of scenarios with the aim of formulating action items to advance their community engagement efforts.
