Description

In this session, we will highlight promising practices that emerged through a faculty professional development program that guided faculty through structured dialogues and presented a co-constructed model for professional development. Professor Joanna Maulbeck implemented a civic engagement component into her Social Foundations of Education class. As part of the project, students designed visuals based on research that provided a historical overview of their topic, including political, philosophical, and socio-cultural elements and advocated for their cause in a way that was unique to them. The content that students read and discussed in class was brought to life through advocacy, merging theoretical and practical knowledge, and situated students for holistic and meaningful learning.
