Over the past few years, many reports have been published, noting a decline in volunteerism efforts across the nation. This same trend has been noticed in higher education; students have refocused their priorities on other aspects of college life. The questions we pose: (1) How do we help students understand the value of being civically engaged? (2) How do we create sustainable partnerships with community agencies? Attendees will learn about KSU adopted the Service Fellowship Program to more effectively address community needs, improve our standards for developing students as engaged, responsible citizens, and support students financially through economic challenges. Attendees will then reflect on their own current practices to identify opportunities to remove institutional barriers for student engagement.
