Description

This session addresses how community-engaged courses support mental health in our post-pandemic context of anxiety, stress, and depression. Through a discussion of two community-engaged writing courses, participants will learn how to support resilience and belonging among students and partners as they work together for social action in their communities. We will discuss Dr. Finn’s work pairing students with student activist groups on campus and Ms. Avery-Miller’s creation of an intergenerational partnership that pairs first-year students with older adults to record and produce personal audio narratives and oral histories. We will invite observations from the participants on their own ideas for community-engaged projects and identify how these can support student well-being as the way forward.
