In this session, staff from the University of Michigan’s Ginsberg Center will offer an overview of our Graduate Consultant model, which offers professional development and training for graduate students in a flexible and mutually beneficial way. This model involves graduate students in important long-term community engagement work that expands Center capacity but has a low hourly commitment and is explicitly built for regular onboarding and offboarding. After we present Ginsberg’s model, we will have a semi-structured discussion period in which we will invite participants to share how their institutions and offices train the next generation of community engagement professionals. Participants will leave the session with ideas about working with grad students that they can bring back to their home campuses.
