Prevention efforts of political misinformation have focused primarily on teaching students to recognize and avoid misinformation. While these methods of information literacy can be effective, this approach ignores that a desire for social belonging within a community is a major factor in how misinformation spreads. This session seeks to empower staff, faculty, and administrators to confront the community nature of this problem and leverage existing campus services towards a shared goal of misinformation reduction. We will develop a basic outline for this programming and use our shared wisdom to work through potential problems. By the end of the session, participants will have collaborative strategies to help reduce student susceptibility to misinformation, research and resources, and programming ideas for their campuses.
