This session will explore the initial steps taken to engage community stakeholders in the reconsideration of descriptions of library materials pertaining to colonial-era Southeast Asia. Our primary goal is to foster inclusivity and equity in the archival representation of this historical period. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to learn strategies employed by our research team to solicit and incorporate community feedback into the curation process, which is still in the early stages. We will discuss the upcoming phases of our collaborative effort, seeking insights and perspectives from attendees to refine our approach. Additionally, participants will engage in discussions concerning the broader questions surrounding the concept of reparative description and the role of community engagement in curating library materials.
