Dr. Madeline Carrera's research into the connection between service learning and college students' understandings of their capacity for caring and value in the community began during her graduate program. Her dissertation explored the connection between structured service learning and the students' understanding of place, value, and caring. She spent 10 years developing the Impact Program at Gateway Technical College in Southeastern Wisconsin and is now working on developing a formal experiential learning program at Hamilton College in Central New York. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Asian Studies and Mandarin Chinese from Carthage College, a Masters Degree in Education from Ashford University, and a PhD in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service in Higher Education from Cardinal Stritch University.
