A collaborative program between two campuses piloted a five-session dialogue-to-change program for a required first year cross-cultural seminar. Students at Carroll University participated in deliberative dialogues around wicked problems that are faced on campus in order to create a more inclusive campus. Participants of this session will learn about the dialogue-to-change process, how the Center for Public Life at OSU-Tulsa developed the program, and the lessons learned from Carroll University administrators and students through the program. As part of this workshop, participants will be provided an opportunity to examine their own curricular spaces for opportunities to develop dialogue-to-change programs. Using an asset-based approach, participants will identify resources that can be leveraged to engage students in their campus-as-community.
Participants will be able to
- identify opportunities for introducing public deliberation to students as a tool for solving community problems
- develop ideas for implementing public deliberation in a variety of curricular and co-curricular settings on campus
- identify assets in their own campus-as-community to leverage for the program.
