These sessions feature institutions that are leading the way toward civic engagement for an engaged democracy and initiatives that put forward a renewed vision of higher education’s role in advancing small-d democratic principles against the challenges of the current national and global context.

This session will include a discussion of Campus Free Expression: A New Roadmap, a report from the Academic Leaders Task Force on Campus Free Expression convened by the Bipartisan Policy Center. The report identifies why attempts to foster a free expression culture have become increasingly difficult, as well as what has worked to establish a culture of open inquiry, frank discussion, and viewpoint diversity.
