Carter Watts, a third-year student at Barnard College of Columbia University, is pursuing a degree in Urban Studies, Education, and Race and Ethnicity Studies. Carter is interested in examining the built environment and the policies that influence it through a critical perspective that is committed to advancing equity and justice for city residents or dwellers. Carter’s work in the Office of Community Engagement and Inclusion has allowed her to build and expand community engagement practices in Harlem and Northern Manhattan through place-based programming.. This aligns with her passion for ensuring community members have broader access to resources. As an Undergraduate Studio Assistant at the Barnard Design Center, a hub for creative exploration and technological innovation, Carter empowers the campus community to experiment with new technologies and design practices. Carter's particular interest lies in community storytelling through visual art, and she is actively developing a community care project that embodies her dedication to fostering inclusive narratives. Through her academic pursuits and practical experience, Carter Watts remains committed to leveraging her skills and knowledge to create positive change and contribute meaningfully to her community.
